Kustom Vertigo: The PIZZ

Lowbrow Artist THE PIZZ graced the first cover of Koolhouse Publishing's revamped CAR KULTURE DELUXE MAGAZINE (#13) and included an 11 page art spread with centerfold. It set the tone for a successful title that is now 72 issues and still going strong.  THE PIZZ was a talented individual with a unique vernacular and cool style all his own. A longtime member of the BEATNIKS CC, THE PIZZ was always dressed in purple, accented with a black car coat and groomed  goatee he called "Iibbity Bibbity."  He was seen driving one two very cool custom cars-  either a flamed wagon or his Aqua '58 and its the flamed wagon that was shot for our cover at the now defunct City Chevrolet lot in Long Beach, CA with fetish model Emily Marilyn.

THE PIZZ had a distinguished art career that parodied all aspects of the kustom kulture lifestyle, he was a staple at local So Cal cars shows and Japan as well.  He was known as the purveyor of "cartoon expressionism", did album covers for Sympathy for the Record Industry, worked with Robert Williams, and was mentor to artist Candy. His Beatnik Babe pinups were the epitome of pouty and petulant and his Gremlin was the wicked anti hero of all things cool. His "Dizzy Dictionary" delved into kustom kulture via the alphabet (C is for Chopped) and is one our most favorite Pizz  projects. He will be deeply and sincerely missed.

Bo Huff, 1943-2015

Its no exaggeration when we say custom car builder Bo Huff was loved by those who knew him.  Not only did he create beautiful, award winning customs but he helped to unify car culture through Rockabilly music. His passing leaves a large empty parking spot here in our Koolhouse garage. May he rest in peace. Our sincere condolences to all his family and friends.  Watch for in upcoming tribute to him in the pages of our magazine.----Koolhouse Staff
